Mt. Kilimanjaro, Ngorongoro Crater

Machame route is our most successful and chic mountaineering path on Mt. Kilimanjaro, essentially as outcome of the following two significant factors: On day 3 of the hike the landscape of this route, permit you to climb high and sleep low – when you start from Shira camp (3 847m) hike up to Lava Tower (4 642m) and then down to Barranco camp (3 984m) to overnight. The peak attempt path from Barafu camp has less loose scree (rocks) compared to the summit attempt path from Kibo Hut, making it slightly easier to reach the crater rim.

This safari features some of the popular Northern Circuit game parks.  With the Best of Ngorongoro Crater and Lake Manyara Safari travel in custom designed 4×4 safari vehicles with open roofs for game viewing.  This is a small group seat-in-vehicle safari with a maximum of 6 travelers per vehicle, all with window seats. Traveling for 4- days, the safari includes meals, accommodation, park entry fees and visit to Lake Manyara & Ngorongoro Crater. It is 2 days/1 night safari – the perfect short safari add-on to your Kilimanjaro climb.

Arrive in Moshi:

We shall congregate in the evening for a Pre-climb briefing and an gear check. We shall also authenticate that you have suitable mandatory medical coverage and travel insurance.

Machame Gate to Machame Hut

The climb starts from Machame gate (1830m), we walk through the lush lower slopes of Mt. Kilimanjaro. Slowly gaining altitude while enjoying the varied flora and fauna of the rain forest, you will arrive at the first Machame Hut, positioned at 3000m above sea level. If a day is brilliant we can look at the glaciated dome of Kibo. Machame Gate to Machame Hut (3,000 m): It takes 6-7 hours walking.

Machame Camp to Shira Camp

This is the straight mountaineering up a steep ridge to reach a small semicircular cliff known as a Picnic site, and continue up a gentler ascent through the lower alpine moorland, which is known for gorgeous wild alpine flowers. The most spectacular views of Kibo peak can be seen from Shira Camp. Machame Hut to Shira Camp (3,840m): 4-6 hours walking.


Start hiking from the Barranco camp at 8:00 am and hike about 10km to Barafu camp stopping at Karanga camp for lunch. You can arrive at the Barranco camp from 16:00 pm to 17:00 pm. Enjoy dinner, prepare your summit gear and rest till 23:30 pm when you will be woken up for the start of the high point attempt.

Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

A steep climb up the eastern wall leads us just below the Heim Glacier, where we may have some spectacular views of Kilimanjaro. We then take a steep outlet up the Great Barranco Wall, which divides us from the southeastern slopes of Kibo, the trail continues down into the alpine desert of the Karanga Valley, lastly, we have a steep climb up to Karanga Camp, Barranco Camp to Karanga camp (4,000 m): 4-5 hours walking.

Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

A steep climb out of Karanga, and a straightforward path on compressed scree with wide views through this empty and dry landscape up to Barafu Camp. The two peaks Kibo and Mawenzi can be seen from Barafu Camp. After a hot lunch at the Camp, The rest of the day is spent resting as we get ready for the finishing ascent before an early night summit walk. Barafu Camp to Summit to Mweka Camp

Wake up ahead of midnight in the cover of darkness. We commence on a steep climb over loose volcanic scree has some well-graded zig-zags and a slow but steady pace will take us to the rim of the main crater, Stella Point, at 5,735m. We shall relax there for a few minutes to get pleasure from the sunrise over Mawenzi. Those who will still be in good mood can continue leisurely to make the two hour round trip from here along the crater rim to the main peak (5,895 m), which is the highest point in Africa. After a few minutes to appreciate your triumph we move down to Barafu is amazingly fast, and we stop at Barafu Camp for some stimulant, we keep on descending to reach Mweka Camp. Barafu Camp to Mweka Camp (3100 m): 13-15 hours walking.

Lake Manyara National Park

Drive from Hotel in Arusha to Lake Manyara National Park, 4 hours. After lunch in Manyara, game drive, view monkeys and elephants stand in the shade of a baobab. Other animals seen are zebras, impalas, monkeys, giraffes, buffalos, hippos, and others. Overnight at the hotel.

Ngorongoro Crater

This morning, you will descend into the Ngorongoro Crater floor for full day game driving and exploration. The crater is 600m deep, 16km across and 265 sq km in area. Enjoy the spectacular scenery and game viewing, in what has been described as the eighth wonder of the world. Many of Tanzania’s last remaining black rhino can be seen grazing on the open grassland of the crater floor, surrounded by some of the 20,000 large animals that occupy the crater, including lion, cheetah, eland, zebra, and gazelle. Flamingo, among other bird species, can often be seen feeding at Magadi Soda Lake as well. Afternoon Return to Arusha at the hotel for dinner and overnight.
